Holistic Review H: heart & circulation support for natural health.

A tiny block in blood circulation can instantly cripple an otherwise healthy person.

    1. Four supplements are especially famous for heart support: vitamin E, CoQ10, TMG and D-ribose.

These nutrients all have many functions but are primarily muscle energizers. The heart is the most important muscle, exercising 24 hours a day for 100 years, if you are to live 100 years. Current research as well as common sense suggest that these four nutrients work together synergistically, as if in one continuous cycle of energy.

    2. One good way to take vitamin E is to rub it on the skin.

Recent research suggests that for most people, there is no clear benefit to taking more than 800 i.u. daily of vitamin E. In some people, 800 i.u. may cause digestive stress and irregular heartbeats. However, even such people may readily experience a clear benefit from 100 to 400 i.u. of extra vitamin E. This benefit is improved energy, flexibility and the repair process for muscles and skin. In addition to the heart being a muscle, the eyes also are held in place by a complex and precise web of muscles. Vitamin E may soothe and rejuvenate these muscles, and as a bonus, reduce wrinkles and puffiness. Therefore, whether taking high doses or low doses, it makes sense to rub some vitamin E on your skin, especially around the eyes and on any sore muscles. CoQ10 works similarly well as a skin tonic, and can be alternated with vitamin E. (However do not apply to open cuts. Vitamin E and CoQ10 are foods, not antiseptics.)

    3. Just as enzymes from hardware stores can prevent clogs in drains, nutritional "fibrinolytic" enzymes might prevent clogs in arteries and the brain.

The most reknowned of these fibrinolytics are: serrapeptase, nattozyme and bromelain. Bromelain is the primary enzyme from pineapple and that is often used as a meat tenderizer. Serrapeptase is the enzyme used by a silkworm butterfly to break open its steel-like coccoon, yet without damaging its delicate wings. Nattozyme is the enzyme used by the bacteria that digests soybeans for making Japanese natto, similar to Indonesian tempe. The pills for these supplements are very small and gentle, so they can be added to almost any health program.

Product guide h1: the best of the basic heart supplements.

    *   Tru-E softgels and E-Oil 0930 by Now Foods.

Tru-E is the most advanced, natural, balanced and comprehensive vitamin E available. Each capsule supplies 200 i.u. of standard d-alpha tocopherol, plus the most natural forms of gamma tocopherol, mixed tocopherols and tocotrienols. True-E is more expensive than plain vitamin E, but not more expensive than others in its class.

E-Oil 0930 is cheap, but also high in quality, and also contains high amounts of gamma tocopherol, mixed tocopherols and tocotrienols. E-Oil does not come in capsules, but only a 4 ounce bottle of liquid. This can be swallowed or rubbed on the skin. For greater convenience, transfer to a plastic eyedropper bottle.

    *   Ubiquinol CoQH-CF softgels by Now Foods.

Ubiquinol is an advanced form of CoQ10. The unusable half of the molecule has been removed. 50 mg. Ubiquinol thus is equivalent to 100 mg. of CoQ10. If you need to minimize your number of pills, we suggest alternating between vitamin E one day and CoQH the next.

    *   TMG capsules by Nutricology.

TMG (tri-methyl-glycine) is a natural precursor to both DMG (di-methyl-glycine) and SAMe, two reknowned supplements for the heart and brain. In addition, TMG itself is the leading natural defense against homocysteine. Some researchers believe homocysteine is just as dangerous for clot formation as LDL cholesterol. We prefer the Nutricology brand of TMG because it is in a digestible and easy to swallow capsule.

    *   D-Ribose capsules.

D-Ribose acts like a switch to help "turn on" the basic energy functions related to vitamin E and CoQ10. However, the label's suggested dose of several capsules daily is probably intended for athletes. Most people can do well enough to alternate between one TMG and one D-Ribose capsule, every other day.

Product guide h2: the best garlic, omega 3 oils & nutritional oil supplements

    *   Kwai enteric garlic.

    *   1000 mg. Molecularly Distilled Fish Oil softgels by Now Foods.

    *   500 mg. Neptune Krill Oil NKO softgels by Now Foods.

    *   4 oz. Black Seed Oil by Amazing Herbs.

Always store in the fridge.

    *   12 oz. Organic High Lignan Flax Oil by Now Foods.

Shake well and always store upside-down in the freezer. This solves the one problem with flax oil: it spoils easily. This is because flax oil is the most easily digested nutritional oil--both for you and for bacteria. Especially synergistic with yogurt or cottage cheese.
