    1. All pets and children should receive glucosamine and collagen regularly, starting at a young age.  

The inexpensive product "Joint Support Powder," by Now Foods, easily supplies both. Mixed with nutritional yeast, pets love the taste when sprinkled on foods. After decades of obsurity, glucosamine is now a popular and medically accepted medicine for arthritis. However what more people need to realize is that glucosamine is not a drug but a joint-building material. Please do not wait until the joints are worn down.

    2. Flea collars are obsolete, but not elastic bell collars. 

Your veterinarian can recommend products such as "Program" or "Advantage" that, used once a month, break the flea's life cycle. There are also products to kill existing fleas, but this may have side effects and often is not needed. Either type of product is safer than either having fleas or using chemical flea collars.

If your cat goes outside, replace the flea collar with an elastic bell collar. House cats are a leading killer of wildlife. However make it elastic so they can escape if hooked on a fence.

    3. Milk products may or may not be important for kittens.  

In our experience, raw milk and cottage cheese can be helpful for kittens. However, according to our local veterinarian, all kittens are essentially allergic to milk products. We think it is alright to try milk products, but do be aware of the possibility of allergic reactions.
